Why I do what I do!
Can you remember a time when you have provided support, advice or helped a family member, friend or colleague - and been able to share in their success 5, 10 or 15 years later?
How did it make you feel knowing you had a part in their success?
Great, isn’t it!
This is what I have been fortunate to be part of, and this is why I do what I do. I get a real buzz out of seeing people achieve the things they want to in life and knowing that I was able to help, guide and advise along the way.
When I first started in this industry at age 21 it was all about seeing clients and selling policies. The clients did need these policies but some, like savings plans, were just set up with no specific goal in mind.
I quickly realised that I had to sell solutions to dreams and events that have not occurred yet or may never occur. This was something clients would not immediately see on the return of their investment. They trusted me to provide the right solutions/product to give them peace of mind that it will do the right job at the right time.
20 years ago, I moved to Hampshire. My role was much the same, looking after clients of a large insurance company. Although much of my advice was able to provide immediate benefits, clients struggled with longer term goals around future retirement planning or protecting the family in the event of death or serious illness. Again, it was trust and reassurance that was required to put them on track with a long-term financial plan.
For some, that planning has provided the security of money being available when they were diagnosed of a critical illness, being able to clear their mortgage meant they could concentrate on getting better.
For others, it has been seeing them retire 2-3 years earlier than they thought possible, because I was able to show them it will be all right. They will not run out of money!
In short, my role isn't about pension plans or insurance products. It's about helping you define what you really want out of life now and in the future, whether it's for you, your business or your family - and then helping you achieve it.
